FRIDAY 4TH FEB - WYNYARD to ZEEHAN
Woke to mostly cloudy, and by the time we were packing up, it was raining …. Bugger ! Was supposed to be out by 10.am, but I didn’t even get to go for my shower until five to ten.
view from our Wynyard campsite, across to Table Cape
Left then and headed south, away from coast through small towns and then Hellyer Gorge State Reserve, where we walked a loop down to the river and back via the road.
Wherever you look on this highway is logging - dense or de-nuded hills and mountains, many ex pine forests now being planted with eucalypts, probably because all goodness has been leeched from the soil now.
There are majestic craggy mountains which just seem to rise out of the forests as you come around corners….. quite breathtaking
Had lunch along the way, and talked to a guy travelling by himself. He gave us lots of good info, as he had just been to most of the places we are intending to go. He was a real ‘’Mr. Hav-a-chat’’, and Michael reckons he and I would make a good pair … (cheeky brat!) … I asked him if he would rather I go silent….hmm……..definitely not! If I’m silent – BEWARE !
Next we went on to Lake MacIntosh Dam.
Intended staying the night at Roseberry, but decided to continue on to Zeehan, an old historic mining town, which still looks like it is in operation. We booked in advance for our 6 hour cruise on the Gordon River (through all the wilderness, etc), so instead of setting up for the night, we are going out to eat, and head off around 7am in the morning to get to Strahan for the morning cruise.
OK, that’s it for now, gotta hit the road to eat. Will hook up internet when we get back and send this journal, but may not get the pics sent tonight (will see how I go.)
Love to all – take care of yourselves xxx
