SUNDAY 6th FEB - BIKE RIDE IN STRAHAN

Rained overnight again, plus we could hear the wind as well….. they seem to be just showers that move on …….  Woke to sunshine, but by the time we got up it was clouding over and we thought it was going to rain again.

Undeterred, we wore heaps of clothes just in case, as the wind was chilly.  My only warm jacket shrank in the clothes dryer last night, so had to wear  one of Michael’s jumpers and vests.

Ended up a lovely day anyway – wind cool down along the water edge as we rode all around town,  but when we rode up to Hogarth Falls, it was glorious, and if anything, hot.  Only had to walk our bikes the last 100 metres.  Saved a hell of a lot of time by riding our bikes up to the falls instead of hiking…… Had our lunch up there, sitting on a nice warm rock beside the crashing water fall.

Found out something interesting today from a local National Parks guy ….  He told me that the red-brown water that is tannin stained from the ‘’button’’ grass, is only red for the first metre or so, and is FRESH water (run-off from all the rivers and creeks when it rains), and the deeper water underneath is crystal clear and SALT water.  He also said it is rich in nutrients for not only the fish, but plant life also.
(Just looks weird seeing a huge harbour so dark).

Did a little shopping for dinner tonight on our way back to Holiday Park, and organised our van ready to head out in the morning.

We are off to Queenstown tomorrow, and with a bit of luck, maybe make it all the way  back West to Strathgordon tomorrow (will try anyway). ….. means we will have to drive all the way back again to head East, but I really want to see two of the beautiful huge lakes over near Strathgordon.

I’m doing this earlier than usual because Michael wants me to sit down with him for a change at night instead of me always editing photos, and typing…… trying to cook dinner also at same time, so best leave this for now, and get dinner done.

Bye for now.  Will try and get more away tomorrow night, but if we are in the bush, might have to leave it till the following night ……  keep safe x x x
